Two nights in the rice country above Ubud, then two on the coast at Sanur with a full day across the strait on Nusa Penida. Terraces and temples first, then the cliffs at Kelingking — you pick the departure date and the hotel tier.

Fly in and out of Ngurah Rai International (DPS), the island’s only airport. Nearly every long-haul route connects through Jakarta, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur.
Confirmation
Book at least 7 days before departure. We confirm hotel and touring availability within 24 hours of your deposit, and refund in full if we cannot secure your dates.
Temples require a sarong and sash, which are lent at the gate everywhere on this itinerary, and a shoulder covering you bring yourself.

Arrival in Bali AT LEISURE
Arrive at Ngurah Rai International. Make your own way in — the transfer is not included — it is 35 km north to Ubud but allow 90 minutes, because the road out of the south is slow at almost any hour.
Check in and rest. Nothing today is time-critical, and the plan works with a morning or a late-night arrival.
Late afternoon in Ubud itself — the palace, the art market opposite it, and the lanes running off Jalan Hanoman.
Dinner in town. Ubud eats early by island standards; most kitchens wind down around 21:30.
Your guide will confirm the next morning’s pickup at check-in. Day 2 starts at 07:00 to get the ridge walk before the heat.

Terraces, Temples & the Monkey Forest GUIDED
Early start on the Campuhan Ridge Walk — two kilometres along a grass spine between two rivers, and pleasant only before about 08:30.
The Sacred Monkey Forest next: banyan trees, three temples, and several hundred macaques. Nothing loose, nothing shiny, no food in your hands — they are quick and they are not tame.
North to Tegallalang, the terraces watered by the subak system that has run these valleys for a thousand years. Small toll gates on the paths take cash.
Afternoon at Tirta Empul, the spring temple where Balinese Hindus bathe under twenty-three spouts in sequence. You may join the queue; a sarong and a change of clothes are the whole requirement.
Bring small notes. Temple donations, terrace paths and parking are all cash, and nobody has change for a 100,000 rupiah note.

Mount Batur & Tanah Lot AT LEISURE
Morning drive up to the caldera rim for Mount Batur — an active volcano sitting inside a far older crater, with the lake curved along one side.
Coffee on the way back down. The plantations along this road grow arabica, robusta and the civet coffee everyone asks about; the tasting is free and the sell is gentle.
Transfer south to Sanur in the afternoon — about 2 hours, and the second half of it in coast traffic.
Sunset at Tanah Lot, the temple on a rock stack that the tide cuts off twice a day. Go an hour early; so does everyone else.
If you want to climb Batur for sunrise instead, say so when you book. It is a 02:00 pickup and a two-hour walk up scree in the dark, and it replaces this day rather than adding to it.

Nusa Penida by Fast Boat GUIDED
Early pickup and down to Sanur for the fast boat. Forty-five minutes across the strait to Toyapakeh — the crossing can be lively when the current is running.
Kelingking Beach first, before the tour boats arrive: a headland shaped like a sleeping dinosaur with white sand two hundred metres below. The viewpoint is the photograph. The path down is a genuine scramble on a rope-and-timber staircase and most people look rather than climb.
Broken Beach and Angel's Billabong next door — a circular cove the sea runs into through a stone arch, and a rock pool at the cliff edge that is clear as glass at low tide. Swim in the Billabong only when the swell is down; your driver will tell you straight, and the honest answer some days is no.
Lunch on the cliff, then Crystal Bay for the easiest swimming on the island and the boat back.
The island roads are rough and the day is long — about 6:30am to 6pm door to door. It is the best day of this trip and it is not a restful one.

Sunrise Coast & Departure AT LEISURE
Sanur faces east, so this is the one beach in Bali where the sun comes up over the water rather than going down into it. Worth the early alarm on your last morning.
The paved path runs the length of the seafront if you want a walk, and the lagoon is shallow and calm enough to swim before breakfast.
Transfer to DPS when you are ready. Allow three hours from Sanur at the door of the terminal — the airport road backs up badly in the afternoon.
Your Hotels
Four nights — two in Ubud, two in Sanur, always with daily breakfast. Choose the tier that suits you; we hold the room and confirm the property in writing.
Comfort · 3–4★
Walkable to the centre in Ubud, a few minutes from the beach in SanurPool, air conditioning, daily breakfast and 24-hour reception. We only use properties currently rated 8.5 or above by recent guests — in Bali this tier buys a garden and a pool that would cost three times as much in Europe.
Deluxe · boutique 4–5★
Valley-view rooms in Ubud, design-led hotels on the coastIn Ubud that means a room looking into the Campuhan or Petanu gorge rather than at a car park. In Sanur it means a short walk to the beach and to dinner, with a proper spa on site.
Luxury · private-pool villa
Your own walled villa with a private pool, in both halves of the tripA one-bedroom villa with its own pool, a walled garden and usually a butler service or daily villa attendant. In Bali this is the tier that actually changes the holiday — the island does villas better than it does hotels.
You will know exactly where you are staying before you pay a balance. We name the property in your confirmation, in writing, as soon as the room is held — and if it is ever unavailable for your dates we substitute at the same tier or better, never below it.
Restaurants worth trying
Breakfast is in the price. Every other meal is yours to choose, so here is where we would eat. We do not arrange any of these and you would pay for them yourself. They are simply places we rate, near where the trip goes. Tick any you like and they appear on the map.
Suggested, not included. Opening hours and prices are theirs, not ours — and a place that is busy at eight will be busy whether or not you booked through us.
Tour Price
All prices are per person, twin share, in US dollars — the figure below is what you pay us. It covers four nights' hotel with breakfast, all guided touring, the inter-hotel transfer and both airport transfers, with a private car and driver throughout. Travelling alone is possible; the single supplement covers sole use of the room.

How the flexi tour works. Choose any departure date and a hotel tier → we confirm availability and the exact price within 24 hours → pay a deposit to hold it → your final documents and vouchers arrive by email a week before you fly. There is no group to join and no fixed departure day.
Seasonal pricing. The figures above are low and shoulder season. High season, July to August, costs meaningfully more; the fortnight around Christmas and New Year is the dearest of the year and books out earliest. The wet season, November to March, is the cheapest and the rain is usually an afternoon hour rather than a lost day.
Budget separately for: temple entry and donations of around IDR 250,000 (about US$16) per person across the trip, the Uluwatu kecak ticket at IDR 150,000, the Indonesian visa on arrival at IDR 500,000, international flights, lunches and dinners, and travel insurance.
