Kuala Lumpur has the clearest, cheapest public transport of any capital in the region — the Twin Towers and Batu Caves are both a single train ride from the centre, and Batu Caves costs nothing to enter. Selling you a guided day here would be selling you a driver you do not need. You get a written plan with the exact lines and fares instead, and the money stays in your pocket. Into KLIA or KLIA2 and straight onto the KLIA Ekspres — 28 minutes to KL Sentral, about RM55, and it never sits in traffic. Transfers are not included, but this one you can do with your eyes shut.
Check in around Bukit Bintang or KLCC, then find your feet in the city.
Dinner on Jalan Alor, which becomes an open-air food court every evening. Satay, char kway teow, grilled fish, and durian if you are feeling brave.

PETRONAS Twin Towers & the old centre TICKETS INCLUDED
The PETRONAS Twin Towers — 452 metres, the tallest twin towers in the world. Up to the Skybridge at level 41, then the observation deck at level 86.
Your admission is included and pre-booked. Slots genuinely sell out, and there is a security queue, so arrive 15–30 minutes before your time.
Afterwards, KLCC Park at the foot of the towers — and come back after dark for the fountains and the best free view of the towers lit.
Train west to Merdeka Square, where the Union Flag came down in 1957, with the Sultan Abdul Samad building across the cricket green.
Finish at the Islamic Arts Museum — about RM20, the best collection of its kind in Southeast Asia, and blessedly air-conditioned.

Batu Caves & Chinatown AT LEISURE
Commuter train north to Batu Caves — about 30 minutes and a few ringgit. Free to enter.
272 rainbow-painted steps up to the cave temple, under a 43-metre gold statue of Lord Murugan. Go early: it is cooler, quieter, and the light is better. Cover your knees or hire a sarong at the bottom.
The macaques are bold. Do not carry food in your hand and do not photograph them close up.
Back into town for Thean Hou Temple, six tiers of red lanterns on a hill with the city laid out below.
End at Central Market and Petaling Street — batik and pewter in the hall, hard bargaining in Chinatown.
