One resort island, four nights, and a seaplane over the atolls to reach it. Reef straight off the beach, a sandbank you get to yourself, and as little or as much structure as you want.
FromUS$460per person, twin share — four nights' villa with breakfast, all resort transfers including the seaplane, and a guided reef snorkel included. Compare the three hotel tiers
Fly in and out of Velana International (MLE). Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so an arrival after about 15:00 means either a night near the airport or a late-morning departure the next day — tell us your flight times and we will build the trip around them.
Confirmation
Book at least 7 days before departure. Resort and seaplane availability move together and both tighten quickly in high season. We confirm within 24 hours of your deposit, and refund in full if we cannot secure your dates.
This is a private, independent trip — no group, no set departure date, and deliberately very little schedule. The days below are what is available rather than what is required; most people do about half of it and spend the rest in the water or asleep. One island means one set of restaurants and one bar, at resort prices, which is why the meal plan question matters more here than anywhere else we sell.

Arrival & the Seaplane AT LEISURE
Arrive at Velana International, built on its own island beside the capital. Our representative meets you before you reach the hall and walks you through.
Transfer to the seaplane terminal and wait in the resort lounge. Seaplanes are visual-flight only and do not fly after dark, so departure depends on the light as much as the schedule.
Twenty-five minutes over the atolls to your island. The flight is the reason people take a hundred photographs before they land, and the window seat is not allocated — board early.
Check in, and that is the day. Most resorts serve a late lunch for arrivals and nothing else is asked of you.
If your flight lands after about 15:00 you will overnight near the airport and fly out in the morning. We will tell you at quotation, not at the airport; it is the single most common surprise in Maldives travel.
Malé itself is ten minutes across the water and can be added at either end of the trip.

House Reef & Sandbank AT LEISURE
A guided snorkel on the house reef with the resort’s marine biologist — the fastest way to learn what you are looking at before you go back on your own.
The reef edge drops from waist-deep water to open blue in a few metres. Fins, and never stand on coral — it is alive, it is slow-growing, and it cuts.
Afternoon by dhoni to a sandbank: a bare crescent of sand with nothing on it, which is the entire appeal. Shade is whatever the crew brings.
Reef-safe sunscreen only. Most resorts now refuse oxybenzone products at the dive centre and some will swap yours for free.
Sunset from the beach, dinner, and an early night. The stars here are remarkable because there is no light for eighty kilometres in any direction.

Half-board meal planAbout US$95 per person per dayBreakfast and dinner. Worth it on an island where there is nowhere else to eat.
All-inclusive meal planAbout US$160 per person per dayAdds lunch and most drinks. The maths turns in its favour if you drink at all.
We can book any of these with your tour. Tell us which you want when you confirm and the tickets travel with your documents.

Maaya Thila or the Whale Sharks AT LEISURE
Divers: Maaya Thila, a submerged pinnacle and one of the most-dived sites in the country, circled by grey reef sharks by day and hunting whitetips by night.
Non-divers: the full-day boat south along Ari’s southern rim, one of the few places on earth where whale sharks are seen year-round rather than seasonally.
Whale sharks are wild animals and nobody guarantees them. Operators here work to a code — no touching, no flash, no swimming in front of the animal — and boats that ignore it are worth leaving.
Manta rays are the other draw, and those are seasonal: Hanifaru Bay in Baa Atoll, roughly May to November, which is a different atoll and a separate trip.
If nobody in your party dives, say so and we will price this day as the whale-shark boat instead of the two-tank dive.

Diving and excursionsQuoted by your resortWhale shark and manta trips run year-round in this atoll. These are the one thing on any of our tours we cannot price in advance — each resort's dive centre sets its own rates, so the figure depends on the resort you choose. Tell us your tier and we will get it in writing before you book.
The house reefFreeSnorkelling straight off the beach costs nothing, and in North Ari it is genuinely good.

Slow day

A Day With Nothing In It AT LEISURE
This day is deliberately empty. The island is small enough to walk around in half an hour, and doing that twice is a reasonable use of a morning.
The spa, the water sports centre and the reef are all there if you want them. So is a hammock.
Late afternoon: a dhoni cruise in the last hour of light. Spinner dolphins run these channels most evenings and are usually found within twenty minutes.
Ask about a private beach dinner if you are marking an occasion — it needs a day’s notice and is the one resort extra almost everybody says was worth it.
The bill lands tomorrow. Extras are charged to the villa in dollars and settled at checkout; resort mark-ups are steep, so keep an eye on it during the week rather than at the end.

Departure

Seaplane Back & Departure AT LEISURE
Breakfast, then the seaplane back to Velana. Departure time is set by your international flight and confirmed the evening before.
With a few hours spare, cross to Malé for the Old Friday Mosque — cut from coral stone in 1656 — and the fish market where the day’s tuna comes ashore.
Malé is not a resort island. It is a working Muslim capital: shoulders and knees covered, no alcohol, and no bikinis outside the designated beach.
Allow 3 hours at Velana before an international departure, plus the seaplane leg before it.
Do not book a tight connection. Seaplanes are weather-dependent and the whole day can shift by an hour without warning — build in the slack at this end, not the other.
Your Hotels
Four nights, on one island, always with breakfast. In the Maldives the villa is the holiday — it decides whether you step off your deck into sand or into the lagoon — so the tiers here are villa types rather than star ratings.
Beach villa · 4★ island
On the sand, with the reef a short walk awayA villa opening straight onto the beach, with a garden or an outdoor shower. This is the tier that makes the Maldives affordable, and on a good island the snorkelling off a beach villa is no worse than off a water villa.
Water villa · 4–5★ island
Over the lagoon, with steps down into the waterBuilt on stilts along a jetty, with a deck and a ladder into the lagoon. Ask for the far end — the villas closest to shore sit over sand rather than reef, and the water is shallower and less interesting.
Overwater with private pool · premium 4–5★
A pool on your own deck, and nobody in sight from itThe largest villas, usually at the end of the jetty or on a separate arm of the island, with a private pool and often a butler. On the premium islands this tier also buys a better house reef, which is what actually distinguishes one resort from another.
You will know exactly where you are staying before you pay a balance. We name the property in your confirmation, in writing, as soon as the room is held — and if it is ever unavailable for your dates we substitute at the same tier or better, never below it.
Restaurants worth trying
Breakfast is in the price, and on the island itself the resort's own meal plans cover the rest. These are for your two days in Malé, at either end of the trip, where meals are yours to choose. We do not arrange any of these and you would pay for them yourself. They are simply places we rate, near where the trip goes. Tick any you like and they appear on the map.
Suggested, not included. Opening hours and prices are theirs, not ours — and a place that is busy at eight will be busy whether or not you booked through us.
Tour Price
All prices are per person, twin share, in US dollars — the figure below is what you pay us. Travelling alone is possible but expensive here; the single supplement reflects that resorts price the villa, not the person.

How the flexi tour works. Choose any departure date and a hotel tier → we confirm availability and the exact price within 24 hours → pay a deposit to hold it → your final documents and vouchers arrive by email a week before you fly. There is no group to join and no fixed departure day.
Seasonal pricing. The figures above are low and shoulder season. The dry season, December to April, is high season and costs substantially more; the fortnight around Christmas and New Year is dearer again by a long way, and carries compulsory gala dinners on top. May to November is the wet season: cheaper by half, still warm, and the rain tends to come in short heavy bursts rather than all day.
Budget separately for: a meal plan if you want one (half board adds roughly US$95 per person per day, all-inclusive about US$160), diving and excursions, alcohol, the Maldives has no visa fee, international flights, and travel insurance that covers diving to your depth.
